One of the most well known types of Italian salame comes from Milan in the Lombardy region. Levoni Milano Salami announces itself on the palate with it's appetizing and pleasant, taste with a touch of sweetness, capable of releasing autumn notes of walnuts. The scent is fresh and the finely minced rice-like grain defines its character. A classic served with michetta bread (Italian puffed white bread roll). Delicious sliced into a salad of red chicory with diced apples and raisins, seasoned with balsamic & EVOO. Excellent sliced on a roll with a touch of mustard and fresh slice of tomato. Piars well with a sparkling white from Lombardia. Levoni was founded in 1911 in Milan by Ezechiello Levoni. Levoni participated in the "Modern Arts & Industry" International Exhibition in London in 1913. Ezechiello Levoni seduced the British members of the Jury thanks to its Salame Ungherese which was awarded the gold medal. This achievement was obtained against all odds since the other competitors had thought, as the famous English saying goes, Levoni would be the winner "only when pigs might fly". From that day on Levoni's flying pig never stopped flying, reaching for the sky. This is their iconic logo that remains today. All Levoni pigs are born, bred and processed in Italy. This approach is certified by CSQA in compliance with the ISO 22005:2008 standard, the reference for Traceability Systems in Agri-Food Companies (cert. no. 41455). Their pigs are raised hormone free with no antibiotics after weaning. They use only natural flavors and spices sourced from around the world. All Levoni meats are gluten free and do not contain lactose.
